I think it should be left in. 

Your question inspired the following thoughts:
Maybe during the install screenshots edited with nice red circles and
arrows pointing at parts of the screen telling people what the different
parts of the desktop do, and telling them about 'system - administration
- networking' and its neighbours would be useful as a follow on.

Kind of like a quick tour. Compress them all put them in a 'gallery' and
hand them out on clicking on the places menu under a new heading called
'tour'.

This idea may be familiar but I have no idea why. :)
