How to create ubuntu from scratch ?

The CDCustomizer stuff was with reference to live CDs; I'm only concerned with
regular ones. 

The thread does go into building a CD from scratch, but seeing as Colin has
already done all the hard work and the installer is incredibly configurable, my
method is very easy!

(All I do is take a CD image, change parts of it, and rebuild from there)
