Spatial mess prevention

Not to put to fine a point on it but Ubuntu has seriously fu*ked this up
so close to a release.  Not only does the patch not work correctly in
all cases (try opening your home then going to places and opening
something else, what the, now I have two windows) but it breaks
documentation all over the net concerning GNOME.  At work we also have
written docs for users that this seriously screws with.

Please revert this.
