Agree, it would be unfortunate to make this highly controversial change
without providing a GUI option.

The change was requested by sabdfl. I agree that it would be better to find
a better all-round solution to the problem (which may simply involve a more
obvious way to get to browse mode) rather than this heavy-handed approach.
