Unfortunately, it appears that the bugs are in various consumer electronics
components (wireless access points, cablemodems, etc.) rather than in
Ubuntu, so I'm not sure that we can do much about the root of the problem.

Probably the best we could do would be to recognise this situation and give
up faster.
