Yes - what I did to get esd working side-by-side with non-esd
compatible apps was similar to this.  I commented out spawn_options and copied
that line's contents to default_options.  Also, I changed -as 5 to -as 2
(without this, you don't hear the beginning of modem negotiation with the HSF
winmodem drivers.  I don't know how polypaudio works, but I presume it has a
similar option.
