I have too.
Console-tools can't handles big (12x22, like sun ones) font for the
framebuffer, kbd can. But installing kbd breaks something (it have to
remove base-config and ubuntu-base), so i have created a virtual
console-tools wih equivs to temporaly fix this dependencies problem.

It's a little suggestion about a little thing: if the next release
can't have a console-tools that can handle big fonts (a lot of laptops
have only one resolution, 1024x768 and up... so normal fonts for
framebuffer are difficult to read...), i suggest to make a dependency
of base-config and ubuntu-base (and other things, of course) to
console-tools|kbd, also if kbd continues to be in universe repository.
