Winmodems in Hoary, update

My laptop has:

0000:00:1f.6 Modem: Intel Corp. 82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) AC'97 Modem Controller (rev 03)

... and it works well with the 'sl-modem-daemon' and the 'slamr' module
from the drivers built by the 'sl-modem-source' package from Debian
unstable.  It does not work right with the ALSA 'snd_intel8x0m' module
for some reason I am not skilled enough to debug, though on a Dell
Inspiron, the opposite is true (the other module works; I still cannot
debug.)
