I believe the Ubuntu source code is what is being used by Linux Mint 17.3
Rosa.

 

On that platform, the code is broken. So I am seeking to determine who is
currently maintaining the code.

 

Below are issues that I have identified. However, as the code doesn't work,
I have no idea what it will take to get the code to work. I have found no
one who has successfully installed this code on the current level of Linux
Mint.

 

I have been battling problems with tightVNC and believe I have zero'ed in on
some of the problems, but not the solutions.

 

First:

In /etc/X11/Xsession there are references to the following:

 

USERXSESSION=$HOME/.xsession

USERXSESSIONRC=$HOME/.xsessionrc

ALTUSERXSESSION=$HOME/.Xsession

ERRFILE=$HOME/.xsession-errors

 

None of these exist. 

 

There is a $HOME/mike/.xsession-errors and it is in use by but not by
tightVNC. How can I create the four files to make the script happy?

 

An .Xresources file also did not exist in either the $HOME or the root.
Error messages and script references to them being needed in each location
where noted. I found such a file in /home/mike/ and copied it into the other
two locations. That cleared the error message regarding it. 

 

Second:

I get an error message that the font path is wrong. Where, in what script,
is the font path specified and what is the correct syntax?

 

At the moment, invoking vncserver causes the current user session become
unstable. When invokes it does say it is running, and notes the log file it
is writing. However when they invoking vncserver -version or vncserver -list
text appears staying that tightVNC is not running and that there is a
problem with the Font Path. 

 

While applications already running will continue to run no new applications
can be launched. Logging off and then back in does clear the problem.
