Slideshow changes would slow the installer down at most negligibly,
given that the slideshow runs in the background and is terminated as
soon as the actual installation is done!  There are certainly criticisms
you could level at this proposed change, but performance isn't one of
them; I'd be surprised if it made any measurable performance difference
at all.

Actually net installs take considerably longer than desktop installs,
because it's much faster to just copy everything file by file off the
installation medium than it is to install packages.  I rather expect
that this is still true even if you count updates.
