Sony Vaio - Ambient Light Sensor Ubuntu 12.04

Till now Ubuntu has not been able to properly support the ambient light
sensor for Sony Vaio laptops to dim the screen and turn on backlight
keyboard when necessary. The following patches have now been rendered
useless by recent updates.

I'm pleading that this be streamlined into 12.04 this is honestly something
quite necessary as it does impact a great deal of users who have switched
to other distros because they have proper support for ambient light
sensors. Can anyone take on this project for the upcoming LTS?
