Fallback plan if Empathy isn't ready for Karmic?

We don't propose to retroactively default to it in Jaunty. :-) Of
course we will revert to Pidgin if Empathy doesn't get stable/useful
enough by Karmic beta.
However, it has a very active and eager upstream, they fix bugs every
day, and the desktop team also throws some integration resources at
it, so I'm hopeful that by Karmic final this will work very well.

Right, undesirable, but not impossible. Pidgin is well tested, and
it's easy to revert back to.
