I'd just like to point out here that _I_ hate Gnome (I've tried to love it,
but it won't reciprocate!), but Ubuntu is also the best KDE distro (except
for the crazy Intrepid release, but my analyst says I'll get over that).
Anybody who would consider creating Gnome to be "badmouthing KDE and
splitting the Linux community", just doesn't understand the entire Linux
ethos - there were good reasons at the time to not want to use KDE with its
commercial QT roots. Those issues have disappeared, but Gnome stands on its
own - as a perfectly reasonable (though ugly) choice of desktops. Almost no
Linux user really wants One Unified Desktop Environment.
