FYI, this didn't work for me, because logging out of my X session
disconnected me from wifi, so I couldn't fetch packages. So I just
shut down all of my apps and left my session logged in. Then I
switched to a console and did the upgrade, which killed my GDM (fine,
it was after all the downloads were done). I just restarted gdm and
then switched back to X.
