"Enterprise" Ubuntu

Some things don't map directly to a Linux environment because of 
different typical configurations.

This would be part of the gnome/kde user profile setup.  I am not 
familiar with this very much so someone else will have to elaborate.

/home on NFS or AFS removes this requirement in Unix.

Have you looked at LTSP?
