Use of Python in Ubuntu development

Hello,

My name is Tennessee Leeuwenburg. I am the Editor-In-Chief of The Python
Papers (http://pythonpapers.org), a free online journal covering Python in
the community, industry and academia.

It was brought to my attention that the Ubuntu development bounties page
notes that development in Python is preferred for Ubuntu projects. This
grabbed my interest, and I thought I would ask how important Python is to
Ubuntu.

I'd love to hear from anyone who would be happy to contribute on the role of
Python within Ubuntu development. A response in article form would be
fantastic, but any information would be useful.
