I have a Samsung ML-1610 and I can affirm that the 'gdi' driver does
often "crashes" the printer (although this is dependent on the program
used: OOo works fine mostly, while Firefox gives troubles almost all the
time).
The closed source driver from Samsung doesn't have this problem, but the
included installation program is quite dangerous so I had to install it
by copying files around on several computers...
It seems like this 'splix' driver also doesn't have this problem (just
tested this on a Feisty install), so it's inclusion in 'main' would be
nice. :-)
BTW: the way this driver is listed in in the (GNOME?) cups config isn't
very useful: "1.0"...
