Extended Application Menu

Hello Ubuntu Desktop Team,

I would really like to share an idea I have for the Ubuntu Desktop.

A problem that occurs with both the Unity and the GNOME desktop is that switching between multiple windows of the *same* application is distractive and/or unclear. The user is either confronted with a fullscreen splashscreen or with multiple clicks on an application icon.

To solve this problem I made a design for a new GNOME extension. I call this the ‘Extended Application Menu’. Why extended? Because the Application Menu is extended with tabs on it’s right side.

To fully describe what I mean I wrote a document and made an animation of the design. You can find this document and animation in my Google Drive account.

The shareable links are:

Animation: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B2GIZ8ogA1c4WERGOTMzRjJTSDg

I’m really curious about your thoughts and I’m really looking forward to your feedback. Hopefully this idea could be of value to the Ubuntu Desktop.

Besides this proposal I also have a question: does anybody know a developer who could and would be willing to make an extension such as this one? Could someone put me into contact with him or her? If the extension is made, the design could be tested with users.

Yours sincerely,

Jeroen Verhoeckx
