Showing mounted volumes on the desktop

Hey all,

I can't find anywhere whether this is merely a bug or a policy
decision. Either way, it should default to on. Their are two reasons
in my mind:

1. Umounting volumes safely is much too hard. The *only* place you can
now do this on in the computer browser. You cannot right click on the
icon in the Places menu or in the nautilus sidebar.

2. If it is hard to find, people are not going to unmount, they are
just going to pull it out. People not unmounting is going to lead to
dataloss, period. Dataloss is bad.

To me, dataloss trumps everything else, including having a clean desktop
