The intention of Oracle publishing ZFS on a weak copyleft license is to 
be able to use proprietary code along with ZFS, while taking advantage 
of the kernel.

Their ultimately purpose is to build a business model where they can 
monopolize technology around ZFS, while taking advantage of the libre 
software community around the kernel. The aim of the GPL and Linus has 
always been to prevent that.
