Buenos dias Elvira,

Para instalarlo tienes dos opciones, bajarte el paquete .deb o por
consola a traves de los repositorios, pero no creo que en los
repositorios este actualizado, para bajarte el .deb haslo desde la
siguiente pagina www.pidgin.im y buscas ya sea el paquete para tu
version de ubuntu o para debian generalmente funcionan.

Si quieres instalarlo desde los repositorios puedes hacer lo siguiente:
por consola: sudo apt-get install pidgin
y te aparecera algo como esto

root en jhonnatan-laptop:~# apt-get install pidgin

y listo, ya lo puedes ejecutar, lo buscas en Apliccations, Internet, pidgin!!!
