I did not get too deep into this myself, so I'm not sure if I can help
you, but there are some questions that even people who know it well
need to help you:

What exactly are error or log messages you see? What did you do and
try, what is the outcome?

Does KVM work in general(without libvirt and eucalyptus) on the
machines you intend to use?

As far as I know, Eucalyptus only works with Xen and maybe KVM.

As far as I read the howto, you need two machines. But it _might_ also
work with only one.
