Since Canonical is doing business with China, the political implications
might be considered on-topic for this list.

I've spent time in China. I wandered all over the city (Wuhan) with my
camera, and never felt restricted. I browsed web sites from the homes of
regular Chinese citizens, and never had one blocked. There's a lot of
hysteria about China which is undeserved.

Yes, the government is working on ways to use the Internet as a weapon.
So are the Chinese. [smile] I'm sure there is some truth to "the great
firewall" and monitoring of citizens, but, really, all governments are
doing those things. While text chats are easy to monitor, I think video
is a lot more difficult.

Also thanks to Darcy for the mention of QQ under Wine. I have tried to
follow that development; it's my (perhaps outdated) understanding that
video doesn't work. When my wife chats with her grandson, video is kind
of the point of the whole thing.
