audio problems

Corey,
Greetings from your fellow Camosun Alumni.  I actually learned about Linux
systems at Camosun.  I have recently installed Ubuntu 9.04 and I am having
problems with audio.  I have no audio whatsoever, even on boot up.  If I
insert a DVD, the movie will play, but I dont hear anything.  Same with
MP3's.  I have ensured that all sound preferences are on default and pulse
audio is all unmuted and turned right up.  If I play an MP3, I can see that
it is playing on the playback and output devices tabs of pulse audio.  I
have also started a thread about this problem on Ubuntu forums.
