The tone of the discussion is 100% up to the participants on this list.

Personally, I think that understanding the parties' views on FOSS --
and on related issues such as copyright policy and IP protection -- is
a perfectly valid purpose here. There's no reason the issue cannot be
dealt with in a civil manner. And people who want to avoid the issue
are welcome to delete the thread.

While I have no interest in debating personal taste, I am genuinely
interested in hearing any legitimate POV that might assert that the
Green position on FOSS is empty rhetoric or otherwise not credible.
Ditto for any similar positions from other parties.

Can we not present such viewpoints in a rational manner? So long as we
are capable of avoiding emotional rhetoric and personal attacks, why
must this be unspoken?

The Green policy is published online at
http://www.greenparty.ca/en/policy/visiongreen/partone#_Toc180047589 .
If you have a rebuttal, I for one really want to hear it, because so
far it has gone unchallenged and unmatched by other parties. Right now
the only _proven_ friend of open source in Parliament has been the
NDP's Charlie Angus, but I don't know if his actions have been
personal or driven by party direction.

A reasonable debate need not be stressful, so long as we can be adult
about it.

PS: I have no axe to grind. I'm going to be running a poll station on
election day, and I'm genuinely undecided so far. More debate -- sane
debate -- is welcomed, at least by me.
