Fixed media symbols on Desktop

If you were one of these MS Winders Users you would use Drag and Drop,
well it is the same in Ubuntu. Left Click on say Documents in "Places
top Left hand Corner", then drag and drop to the Desktop. It makes a
copy there! Media it might be the same sort of thing. Ubuntu will
recognize Flash Drives, or DVD's etc with Media on them, and auto-mount
the drive after it has been read. It will show up on the desktop. You
can drag and drop Icons from the internet, or applications on the
desktop or in Panels too!

Google does not seem to be pointing in the right direction
