Fixed media symbols on Desktop

Hi Alfred!

Thank you very much for your clear reply - now I understand

AS you will see in a subsequent message, I am trying to network my 
Ubuntu box with my XP box behind a router

Will the XP drives also show up in 'Places' and hence on my Desktop If I 
so desire?
