problem with more recent Kernels

Hi

I recently installed 8.04 64 bit for AMD

I have an Asus motherboard and a Sata hard drive.

For some reason my machine will not boot in kernels any newer than
2.6.22-14

all the rest hang up on the sata drive according the messages.

I was just wondering if anyone new how to correct this?
