Hi:

In the latter part of December, I started to play with Ubuntu 8.10 and
noticed that there was no Dial-up dialogue box for it in network tools.
A Mr. Macduff helped me somewhat, but the very next day a virus -Linux
Virus * wiped out all my Email. So I did not have a chance to follow up
on his link on how to do this. I looked today for instructions on how to
set up the modem in 8.10 on the Ubuntu Web Site offering Documentation,
but these instructions were written for 8.04, and just renamed 8.10. In
network tools there were many options but Dial-up is no longer one of
them. Mac Duff had said that I should use pppconfig which I did, but it
was awkward to use, what with Rusty Phone lines blowing in the Winter
Wind in this part of the world. Is there going to be an add on to 8.10
which makes use of the older Interface, that worked PERFECT? Were
Programmers under the impression that Dialup was something found in
Museums along with Dinosaurs. If you don't live in a Big City connecting
to the Internet is Dial-up. Here in spite of everyone in the Solar
System using DSL and better, we still have it --- Dial up.

*Oh and Viruses -"That's not something that Linux gets" I've often heard
- On my second last Virus sweep I had 52 , and 5 days latter I had 11 by
ClamTK. The Ubuntu Store in Britain was infected with a few, that send
you Emails from (Your Email Address) at one point about 30 at a time! I
have a back-up, but don't know how to test a back -up, as these details
are assumed that anyone would know, on the Ubuntu Web Site.

Alfred!
