So do you think the Herd trampled or otherwise disturbed your relationship
with your modem & router? Did it change the settings somehow?

I messed up my happy little Edgy Kubuntu by installing Xubuntu desktop last
week. It suddenly wouldn't start at all: seemingly the settngs in
menu.lstgot changed. That led to a short dalliance with Mepis (felt
out-of-date
after Edgy) and Linux Mint (I no longer like the Gnome desktop) and a
re-install of Edgy.

I've developed a trick that makes reinstalls much easier. The .kde, .mozilla
and .jpilot folders in my home are actually links that point to folders on
my documents partition so I don't lose data and customization. I should do
the same with /etc/fstab and /etc/apt/sources.list and a few other files
i've changed after long and hard R&D.

I love playiing around with Linux!
