Ubuntu v8.10

I have upgraded from v8.04 to 8.10. I am having serious problems with an 
optical mouse.

1) The mouse will freeze at times, locking up the whole sysetm, the only 
way out is to press and hold the On/Off button. This is usually when 
using Thunderbird.

2) When using Komposer, moving the mouse pointer will cause Komposer to 
quit.

Sorry, but I shall have to revert to v8.04.
