You're right, I hadn't looked into this deeply enough (thanks for
providing me with a "quest" to help me wake up this morning :->).

My understanding is that Ubuntu imports from sid (unstable) at the
beginning of the release cycle [1]. According to the release schedule,
this would have been in December 2006 for Feisty [2]. Given the Debian
change information [3], I would have thought Feisty would have the most
recent version.
However, [4] refers to the case where changes have been within Ubuntu
that make automatic merging problematic. Thing is, I've looked through
the Ubuntu changelogs [5] and through MoM [6], and not been able to find
any reason why wacom is behind.
The latest people to touch wacom were Matthew Garrett [7] and Scott
James Remnant [8], so perhaps they would be able to shed some light or
assist with the update.
