I solved the same issue on Ubuntu 17.10 Acer Aspire E5. There is a repo with a lot of BT Firmware ready to use: https://github.com/winterheart/broadcom-bt-firmware/tree/master/brcm
It may be necessary to rename the file to make it work. You can find out with the following command:
$ dmesg | grep bluetooth
[ 12.314809] bluetooth hci0: Direct firmware load for brcm/BCM.hcd failed with error -2
If you get a similar line, you need to rename the firmware
(/lib/firmware/brcm/BCM.hcd in this case).
