I'm supposed to have a teacher skill, as I'm a teacher :-) (of 
informatics and maths). Awareness of Linux is important, especially in 
education. I don't teach thát long (sth. like 7 years), but I already 
see a shift that nicely follows the market share: a lot more use Mac 
then it used to be, some already know about Linux and even one's father 
uses Linux at home (so that's the 1 out of 100).

Although I'm very much interested in Linux and education, I really don't 
have the time to take initiative (building a house, second baby on it's 
way,...). But if somebody will start it, I'm going to be a spectator for 
sure (just like I am with this mailinglist).

What I already do is:

    * Awareness: if we our talking about software, then I split up
      between regular applications and operating software.
    * We have the study area 'Informaticabeheer' with 11 lessons a week
      about things related to IT. I teach 5 of those lessons. I have
      setup an LTSP setup with Ubuntu. If we only need internet and a
      text writer eg., then it's just fine. But the course uses Windows
      7 and then the pupils can use VirtualBox to install and configure
      Windows 7 by themselves. The LTSP-setup works fine, but when they
      start to use Windows 7 inside VirtualBox, then a network
      bottleneck appears. We are using a 10/100 switch and the system
      monitor shows an downlink of 11,8 MiB/s. So I will need a switch
      with at least one gigabit link, but for the moment there is no
      budget (if somebody would have one in spare... :-) ).
    * Maintaining a list of schools already using Linux, just to see

What I don't believe in at all, is making a total switch to Linux in the 
study areay 'Informaticabeheer'. It's true that our education system is 
(much) too focused on Microsoft, but by making a total switch to Linux, 
it's too focused again. If my LTSP+VirtualBox setup is going to work: 
then it's going to be just fine for me.
