IRC meeting 19/05/2010 – Report

Present at the meeting (in random order) : JanC, pvandewijngaerde,
jean7491, Clamam, mimor, gadeynebram, massimo21

1. Past and future events
a. Release parties Lucid Lynx 10.04 LTS.
- Ghent : Release party (13/5). mimor reported that the meeting was
good, approximately 20 participants from different level of experience,
2 installations on laptops and one problem fixed on another laptop,
several questions about OpenOffice and the minimal installation of
Ubuntu. Later it just went over to a regular Hackerspace evening. The
location was awesome.

Using Facebook, Twitter, ... to promote this kind of event is
discussed : although there are some reticence to do that, if other
people want to, they are free to do.

- Genk : Ubuntu-meeting (Bitmappers) (16/5) From the participants : it
was a great event with a lot of interesting people, not as many visitors
as in Herk-de-Stad, but a big location that we could be able to use
again in the future. There was approximately160 people without the
volunteers. The Bitmappers did a great job with this party, and with the
help of sponsors and city Genk.

Question : does anyone know if there will be some presentations or other
documentations available ?

- Ostend : Presentation/Install party organized by Ubuntu-be with the
support of the local organization Zandletters on 29/5 (13.30 - 15.00
hr.). See home page http://zandletters.be/. Volunteers to help and
visitors are welcome.

c. Other events
- UDS was great: fun, interesting, lots of work being done, tiresome --
but great . One of the results for locoteams is that we might get a good
quality Ubuntu banner.
There were some sessions about organizing events & such, and about how
Canonical could help with that. Basically it might be useful for more
people to attend the sessions, e.g. from remote (using the audio
streams, IRC & gobby).

- LGM : JanC will be at LGM and present opensource/Linux/Ubuntu to
graphics students. If anybody wants to show up, they are also welcome of
course (details : JanC)

d. Planning September
05/09 Dipro Ghent , 12/09 Dipro Antwerp, 18/09 Software Freedom Day,
26/09 Dipro Hasselt, 26/09 Nielse Computer dag

2. Promotion
a. Public Relations.
We need a Public-Relations Team. First step is to nominate new dutch and
french press contact points : we agreed with the application of Nicolas
as french press contact.
If other people are willing to help, we could constitute a press contact
team.
We still need a dutch press contact (to be in charge of initiative and
contact with Flemish medias).

b. New banner to identify our booth in the events : replacing Belgian
Team or Belgian LoCo Team by “ubuntu-be.org” seems better as including
the address of the website.
Please feel free to comment the idea or to add other proposition.

3. Support points map status : mongolito404 is working on the problem.

4. Things living in the mailing list
a. New ways/events to promote Ubuntu. Remember : all suggestions are
welcome, everybody can look for contact and propose activities. We need
proposals of activities for the Software Freedom Day (18/9)

b. Update of the wiki Review and update of the wiki page
belgianteam/responsibility is necessary.

5, Other question JanC : we might want to get together for a real-life
meeting with some people and do that occasionally (like, at least every
6 months or so) . With a good preparation and agenda, it could be
usefull. The proposition has to be worked out. Your comment ?

6. Next meeting : 26/05/2010 at 21 h.
