IRC meeting 31/03/2010 – Report

Present at the meeting (in random order) : mandel, JanC,
pvandewijngaerde, jean7491, Clamam, mimor, mongolito404

1. Past and future events
 a. Dipro Genk (28/03)
It was a good but not too busy fair. People showed interest and some
came back again at every fair. Most were interested in a dual-boot
system with Windows and Ubuntu,. Our 2 netbooks with 10.04 and 9.10
attracted attention because the visitors had an eye for such a small
all-rounder with a beauty of an OS. The laptop with 10.04LTS Beta1
attracted a lot of Ubuntero's on the fair looking for the latest
changes. The Bitmappers Computer Club and our stand together presented
almost 10 meters of promotion for Ubuntu. The relationship was good and
definitely worth repeating. The Bitmappers did promote their
release-meeting (release party) of Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. The Bitmappers
computerclub have a nice video showing the difference between Ubuntu and
Windows.

 b Dipro Ghent (18/4)
Kenneth will coordinate the booth, a few names are already in te wiki,
the team is not yet complete, additional volunteers will be welcome.

 c. Release parties Lucid Lynx 10.04LTS.
Nothing to add to the already announced parties in Mechelen on 3/5 by
HCC Vlaanderen, in Brussels on 9/5 by Dewereldmorgen.be (ex-Indymedia)
(no details) and in Genk (Cultuurcentrum) on 16/5 by the Bitmappers
(big event !). This last event has been added in the calendar on our
website.

- Ghent release party
Mimor started with the organization of the release party in the
Whitespace (hackers): he will update his website
(http://mimor.be/release-party/lucid-lynx/) with the how to get there
and stuff and put links to it on related pages (such as wiki). The party
will start at 13 h .
Lightning talks : : mayor changes in Ubuntu 10.04 and others ...
Proposals are welcome.
Promotion: through website uitingent.be (database with events in Ghent)
and Ubuntu-nl forum. Perhaps a press release in local newspapers in Ghent ?

- Antwerp :
With local ubunteros, we plan to organize an install/launch party
within the Ubuntu-be booth (6m. x 4 m.) at Dipro Antwerp (9/5) in the
afternoon. Main problems are volunteers and active promotion in Antwerp
area : how promote the event with a limited cost ? Preparation is going
on. Proposals are welcome : local newspapers / magazines (press release
in local newspapers), websites, ?

 d. Other events : nothing

2. Promotion
 a. Public Relations. We need a Public-Relations Team (with people who
knows about Public Relations). First work should be to write and
disseminate a press release about the release of 10.04LTS. The main
problem is to find a few motivated volunteers !
As suggested by mimor and to start with, a wiki page has been created
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BelgianTeam/PressReleases). Everyone can
contribute.

 b. No new information about localized CD's. no interest for this item,
it will be deleted from the agenda.

3. Support points map status
Not much feedback but the thing looks solid enough for a first release
and migration of the existing data.
For existing support point mongolito404 can match existing users account
on the website and import the data but without commitments. For support
points without a matching account, he can mail them to invite to
register on the website. No plan to import commitments for existing
accounts, only points localisation, languages, etc. and invite them to
renew their commitments by updating their profiles.
A next step for the module which has not yet been written is that
support points have to confirm regularly their commitments.

4. Things living in the mailing list
 a. New ways/events to promote Ubuntu : no new input : all suggestions
are welcome, ... but there is no suggestion !
 b. Next meetings (till 28/4?) have to be led by another volunteer, as
Jean7491 is travelling abroad. Someone has to take it over : the minimum
is to lead the meeting and to add the log in the wiki, better work is to
write reports/summaries.

5. Next meeting : no date planned, JanC will announce it through the
mailing list.
