Nice poster.

I don't want to troll but AFAIK, JPEG is not a proprietary format but
an ISO standard (ISO 10918-1). My understanding is that the JPEG
committee wants the format to be implementable without payment of
license fees but that a company claimed a patent over it. According
the the JPEG Wikipedia entry, this patent has expired and has been
considered as invalid by the USPTO. Anyway software patents do not
apply here in Europe (even if the EPO likes to grant them) so we
shouldn't care.

For printing, JPEG is no recommended since it will probably produce
compression artifacts easily visible on a large sheet. Use TIFF or PNG
for lossless compression. Off course, JPEG is fine for quick (web)
preview.
