[Ubuntu-be] The Intrepid Ibex is coming! Install parties, Dipro fairs, press release.

Hello Belgian Ubuntu Beings :)

The release of the next Ubuntu, version 8.10 "Intrepid Ibex", is
approaching quickly. The beta has been out for a few days and the final
release is planned for October 30th. In this regard, I'd like to talk
about a few things that are happening or need to be done.


A) Install parties

After the release parties for the Gutsy and Hardy releases, the plan for
Intrepid is to organise (smaller) local install parties. If you have
planned such an event, please add it to the wiki [1] so others can join
in. You may also want to announce it to this list. We have a special
website [2] aimed at the visitors of the parties where updates and new
events will be posted.

Currently we have an install party going on in Hasselt, in collaboration
with the BitMappers computerclub, on November 22nd. All the information
can be found at the wiki page [3], including a flyer which you can
freely modify for you own event. If you happen to live near Hasselt,
please feel free to spread the existing flyer in schools, libraries and
cultural centres.

Intrepid install cd's will arrive from Canonical mid-november (at
first), I don't know how or how many of these will be distributed.


B) Dipro fairs

The Dipro fair season has started a few weeks ago, if you plan to help
organise a booth at one of the fairs: use the wiki [4] and get in touch
with other candidates :)

I revamped the introductory presentation of Ubuntu that can be looped at
a fair booth. It's available for download at the wiki [4] (bottom of the
page). It's currently Dutch only, however feel free to translate and
modify.


C) Press release

Another thing that needs to happen is the writing of a press release for
Intrepid (Dutch/French). Volunteers can post their text to the wiki
and/or announce it on the list :)

De release van de volgende Ubuntu, versie 8.10 "Intrepid Ibex" komt er
binnenkort aan. De beta is al enkele dagen geleden uitgebracht en de
uiteindelijke versie staat gepland voor 30 oktober. In dit opzicht zou
ik het even willen hebben over enkele dingen die gaan of moeten
gebeuren.


A) Install parties

Na de release parties van Gutsy en Hardy is het plan voor Intrepid om
(kleinere) lokale install parties te organiseren. Als je al zo'n
evenement gepland hebt, voeg het dan toe aan de wiki [1] zodat anderen
hiervan op de hoogte zijn en kunnen deelnemen. Je kan het ook even
aankondigen op deze mailing lijst. We hebben ook een speciale website
[2] gericht op de bezoekers van de parties waar updates en nieuwe
evenementen gepost worden.

We hebben momenteel één install party op de agenda: op 22 november in
Hasselt, in samenwerking met de BitMappers computerclub. Alle informatie
staat op de wiki [3], waaronder een flyer die naar wens kan aangepast
worden voor andere evenementen. Als je in de buurt van Hasselt woont mag
je de bestaande flyer zeker verspreiden in scholen, bibliotheken en
culturele centra.

Intrepid installatie cd's komen van Canonical onze richting uit en
zullen ongeveer half november aankomen (ten vroegste). Ik ben niet op de
hoogte hoe en hoe veel er zullen verspreid worden.


B) Dipro beurzen

Het Dipro seizoen is enkele weken geleden al van start gegaan, als je
van plan bent om een stand te organiseren op één van de beurzen of een
handje toe te steken: gebruik de wiki [4] en spreek af met de andere
kandidaten.

Ik heb de intro-presentatie van Ubuntu wat opgefrist; die kan afgespeeld
worden op de stand. Je kan ze downloaden op de wiki [4] (onderaan de
pagina). Momenteel is ze enkel in het Nederlands, uiteraard mag ze
vertaald en aangepast worden.


C) Persbericht

Nog iets dat moet gebeuren is het maken van een persbericht voor de
release van Intrepid (Nederlandstalig/Franstalig). Vrijwilligers kunnen
hun tekst op de wiki zetten en/of melden op deze lijst :)
