Most Probably your partition information is little messed up, If you have
PowerQuest partition magic available use it, it detects and  tries to fix
problem when loading. Alternatively you can use fdisk /dev/hd0 and there is
a option to fix partition table problems. becareful when using fdisk

only selecting linux-image-<version> will do, synaptic will automaticall
choose the dependant files to uininstall

I've never used Koffice suit, so I can't tell how it is, if you try it don't
forget to let us know how it was ;)
