Not only has OpenOffice EOLed the Ubuntu LTS office suite but also
mozilla has EOLed the browser ("Firefox 3.0.x will be maintained with
security and stability updates until January, 2010. ")
Reminding ourselves of how Ubuntu defines itself:
"Ubuntu is an operating system built by a worldwide team of expert developers. It contains all the applications you need: a web browser, office suite..."
you can see that the LTS version is not really an enterprise option
since the both main constituents are no longer secure - unless
Canononical takes on this task - or at least supervises it.
@Documentation team: May I go in and change the text ""Ubuntu 8.04 LTS
Desktop: Release April 2008 and maintained until...." to
"Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Desktop: Released in April 2008 and with security fixes
for the operating system until...." ?
And maybe the "ideal for large deployments" should be dropped
completely. Especially in view of the Aurora security repercussions on
IE which included french and governments warning businesses and
individuals to switch to another browser.
