Suggestions for Sydney Lucid Release Party

We discussed the idea of having a Lucid release party in Sydney during
the Loco Meeting. I believe this would be a great idea & an excellent
opportunity to promote Ubuntu. If we all bring a friend or two it could
be a great day. It would also be the perfect opportunity to meet Sydney
loco team members.

If we promote it on our website, on the wiki, the planet, etc, we could
*maybe* even have a mini install-fest if the venue permits & people are
interested.

I haven't been to a release party before so I don't really know what
would be involved. It seems like there is some good general info at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LucidReleaseParties &
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BuildingCommunity/RunningReleaseParty

I would like to know what has happened at previous release parties (not
only in Sydney) to get some sort of idea as to what is expected. Also,
more specifically for those of us in Sydney, do we team up with SLUG for
our release parties?

We would also need to think about a venue. Where have previous release
parties been held? It was also agreed that the venue would need to be
"family friendly". In the meeting there were quite a few suggestions
such as:
Domain
Centennial Park
North Sydney Reserve
Olympic Park
Parramatta Park

I believe that a park type of setting would allow for greater
scalability, the only thing that I am worried about if we do have the
release party in a park is that it may be cancelled due to bad weather.
Another consideration might be how close the venue is to public
transport as some of us (like myself) may not be able to drive to the
venue. Does anyone else have any other suggestions for a good venue?

If we want to start becoming more active, I believe that the upcoming
Lucid release would be an excellent opportunity for us to spread the
word. What does everyone else think?

Kind Regards,
Mitch (kermiac on IRC)
