As Paul kindly pointed out (thanks Paul) & I unintentionally left out of
my first reply - please do not take my experience with upgrades as "the
norm". This is just my personal experience & is most likely due to user
error &/or some other strange thing that I have done. I simply like to
"wipe the slate clean" as I install a lot of experimental & unsupported
software from various sources. The vast majority of users upgrade
without any problems :)
