phpMyAdmin and MySql Query Browser Passwords

Hello All

I have the need to construct a database for a voluntary association and
wish to use MySQL Query Browser and/or phpMyAdmin.

I am very new to all this stuff.

MySQL Query Browser and phpMyAdmin both open up OK but ask for :

Server Host Name - is this 'localhost '?

User Name - I don't remember setting one - is there a way I can change
this to what I want ?

Password - Again, I don't remember setting one - is there also a way I
can change this to what I want ?

I suspect this can all be done by editing local scripts, but am not
sure which one and how
