I set my email client to send plain text mail by default.  For some of
my (potential) clients I use HTML mail with a "flashy sig" embedded. 

Google needs to be taken out the back and given a good kick'n for
enabling html mail by default in gmail.

Also if you want to save money on "expensive connections when away" you
should look at your options.  When desperate (and the client is paying)
20AUD isn't that expensive :)
