Installing Java plug-in for webpage display

Hi,

I am not sure what Java items to install from the list in Synaptic in
order to have webpages fully displayed that apparently use Java applets.

I have looked at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/JavaInstallation but
don't understand most of it, and can't see OpenJDK in Synaptic.

Do I have to install a whole runtime environment in order to view
webpages fully that use Java applets, or just install a browser plugin?
(java-gcj-compat-plugin ???)

I have Hardy Heron.
