How to I get rid of this Update Manager error message?

Hello All Fellow Australian Ubuntu Users,

I'm a Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron user.

I have recently upgraded my hardware and had the computer shop which built
this machine install Ubuntu HH on my behalf. I did originally supply the
computer shop with a cd-rom containing the OS (eg Linux Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy
Heron) however, somehow between my giving the cd-rom to the shop and the
shop's technician using it, it was scratched and rendered un-usable.
Fortunately the computer shop had another disk of Ubuntu HH ... so to cut a
long story short... the computer shop used their cd-rom not mine (since my
copy was scratched).

I kept a lot of files (all files?) from the Home Folder and Desktop of my
previous computer and over the last few weeks since I have been using my
system I have been gradually installing applications which were missing. (I
hope that makes sense!)

All of the above is just background info.

The reason for this email msg is that when the icon for updating my system
appears (yellow triangle with an exclamation mark inside) -- when I click on
it the Update Manager open correctly... then I get the error message which I
have pasted into this msg (see below). Also, if it makes it any clearer, I
have attached a png format image of the error window (see
"update_manager_error2.png -- attached).

Can someone please help me to get rid of this error. Note that when I click
on the "OK" button (?if memory serves me correctly) -- I can then proceed to
download the new updates and patches successfully.

Pasted below is the error message:
