DVD Burning Problems

I too am having difficulty burning DVDs under Hardy (64 bit), something
that worked fine under Gutsy (64 bit).  I can watch movies and read data
DVDs fine but just can't burn them.  I can't remember the exact error
messages that are displayed (they were all different depending upon
which app I use) but I can reproduce them should the need arise.  I
would like to know what I can do to begin to identify the problem.
