Problems with a Dell AIO 922 Printer

To Australian UBUNTU email list & Ubuntu Linux Yahoo Group.

I am using my Dell Dimension 8200 computer system with a Dell AIO 922
(Printer / Scanner).

I did a total clean re-installation of UBUNTU 'Gutsy Gibbon' yesterday...
followed by me downloading all of the updates available -- I think there
were 185 updates, approx 282.5 MB in size.

I will happily provided specifications for my system when requested (as long
as I can work it out myself!).

I have installed re-inked colour and black cartridges in my Dell All-In-One
Printer.... however, I cannot print anything with it. When I use OpenOffice
2.3's Writer program and select print, I get an error message window "Error
while printing" with an OK button to close the window.

The printer is definitely being detected by UBUNTU because it auto-detected
the printer. The printer connects to my computer using a USB printer cable.

Also, the only size for printer paper is "Letter" whereas I need to use the
metric size "A4". How do I install the metric paper sizes?!?

My main questions are: What are my options for using this printer to print
stuff? How can I test it? As I said, I recently installed re-inked colour
and black cartridges in it. Could this be the problem?!? (printer has
messages warning of low ink levels, but I'm told this is normal for re-inked
cartridges.)

The printer LCD window says something about "load paper then press the menu
key" but when I press the menu key it fails to load the paper.

I will appreciate any help I can get!!!
