OK - I just installed totem-xine and the totem-mozilla plugin, and as you
said - it works on the smh.com.au site! 

However, quicktime trailers no longer play from

http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/ which mozilla-mplayer handled before,
and the totem plugin chokes on various other sites as well.... *sigh* can't
win it seems...
