External DVD Burner & Ubuntu 7.04 in Compaq Preasrio 700?

Hi All,

Have anyone ever used an external DVD burner/reader with Ubuntu before?
I am thinking to get an external CD/DVD burner, which I want to plug 
into the USB port of my old Compaq Presario 700 running on 7.04 and 
would like to know if anyone has any experience/problem/issue that I 
have to pay attention to.
Even a small piece of information, if any, would be much appreciated.
